Ann Kristin Rotegård, PhD, RN has over 20 years of experience in the field of nursing informatics, with a candidacy in nursing science: didactics, and a doctoral thesis in nursing science on Health Assets (people’s strengths, resources and empowerment).

Clinical experience is from Oslo University Hospital where she served as a nurse educator, unit leader and had a research and development position in the Division of Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine. Special interests are in the use of technology to support excellence in nursing practice and documentation.

Ann Kristin was the chair of IMIA NI (International Medical Informatics Association, Nursing Informatics) in the period 2021-2024, was a vice chair (2018-2012) and is a fellow of the IMIA Academy.

Currently, she is the managing director of VAR Healthcare, a digital evidence-based knowledge support- and decision support system, containing hundreds of nursing procedures (richly illustrated and animated), with connecting knowledge summaries, knowledge tests and medication calculators. The VAR system has AI support enhancements, integrates with electronic patient healthcare record (EPR) systems, and quality management systems (QMS). VAR Healthcare is used in healthcare organisations all over Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany and in several other countries.
